About The Client
Live at the Eric Morecambe Centre (LATEMC) is an established stand up comedy night, taking place monthly at the Eric Morecambe Centre in the heart of Harpenden. Some of the comedy icons that have played here include: Jen Brister, Tom Rosenthal, Dylan Moran, Amy Matthews, just to name a few. With the event growing in popularity, the LATEMC team wanted to invest in a recurring photographer to document each comedy night, to further legitimise their place as a must stop venue for all comedians, as well as increase audience pull to a national stage.
Production Goals & Outcomes
After a no-obligation, introductory discussion between the LATEMC and Crocodile Tears teams, we both agreed that high quality event photography is a worth while investment, adding more desirability for acts to perform at the venue, and to have more scope for advertising the events, creating a visible increase in ticket sales. Through a variety of framing styles, including BTS, multiple angles of the stage, audience reactions, and more, the shoots are able to effectively translate the ecstatic feel of the nights, whilst creating enough LATEMC branded shots to ensure effective branding.
Development Phase
It can be quite a challenge to translate the energetic atmosphere from a successful comedy night into effective photography. So when photographer Joshua met with the LATEMC team, they developed a moodboard of current marketing material that LATEMC was working with, similar stills from other staged events, and other shots that successfully conveyed the feel of being in the audience. These acted as a foundation of what was captured on the night.
Shoot Phase
Through a range of angles, sizes and precise timing, Joshua focussed on capturing everything that a customer would expect to see (shots from the audience, at a range of heights, sizes and angles) as well as a peek behind the curtain at what a customer wouldn’t see (BTS, shots from the wings, and shots of the audience). With over 400 photographs taken in total from our first night at LATEMC, it was important to capture the comedians animated, audience crying with laughter and with the LATEMC logo directly behind the act - the shot to sell the night to future audience members. This was a half-day shoot with a one person crew
Post-Production Phase
The RAW images were processed, graded and returned to the client before the pre-arranged delivery date.
Through these Crocodile Tears event stills, LATEMC has added extra marketing scope and legitimacy to allow it to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with more established, longer running comedy nights, as well as more social media opportunities to entice a wider sphere of repeat audience members. As someone lucky enough to experience the atmosphere on the night, LATEMC is a comedy night that you shouldn’t miss!
